Archive of Records from Odd Fellows Jeptha Lodge 100, Clayton Illinois, 1857-1941

Clayton, IL: Jeptha Odd Fellows Lodge, 1857-1941. Three manuscript log books: Visitor's Register, Membership Directory and Ledger, and Secretery's cash book/ledger. Generally fair to good, with the directory lacking front cover, rear cover detached but present. Guest book and secretary's ledger with boards heavily worn and rubbed, binding shaken but holding. Contents generally clean, with occasional staining.

Interesting I.O.O.F. archive from the Jeptha Lodge 100 in Clayton, Illinois, the earliest date being 1857 and the latest, 1941.  The visitor's register has approximately 15 pages of entries spanning those years.  The earliest date in the membership directory/ledger is 1869.  The latest of the three is the secretary's ledger, with the earliest dated entry being 1896.

According to The Ark, and Odd Fellows' Western Magazine, 1852:

"Jeptha Lodge, No. 100, was instituted at Clayton, Adams county, February 13, 852, by D.D.G.M. Levi Stillman, assisted by brothers from Mendon and Columbus Lodges.  This shows the advance of the Order in Illinois for the past two years. ...Who that knows its intrinsic excellencies, and understands the heaven-born principles of Odd Fellowship, will not say with one of old, 'The Lord increase you an hundred fold, however many ye may be!'"

A fascinating set of materials from a time of great growth in America for the order.
