The Garden Under the Sea [Dedication Copy]

New York: The Viking Press, 1957. First edition. 8vo, 190pp. Illustrations by Garry MacKenzie. The dedication copy, inscribed by Selden to Rose [Rosalie Ward Jackson] on the half title page. Publisher's light blue cloth stamped in blue on front cover and spine in illustrated jacket. Boards toned along edges, corners bumped. Jacket with toning to spine and shallow chipping at corners and spine ends. A Very good copy.

George Selden's second book following The Dog that could Swim Under Water in 1956.  This is the dedication copy warmly inscribed to Rosalie Ward Jackson and signed as "Jerry" Selden Thompson:

"Dear Rose - here is your copy of your book.  I only wish it were as good a book as you deserve to have dedicated to you - with love, Jerry Selden Thompson."

Three years later, Selden would go on to write one of the classic Newbery Honor books of the 60s, in A Cricket in Times Square.  This title, with the charming illustrations from MacKenzie is quite scarce, especially signed.
