A Catalogue of Modern First Editions, Californiana, and Miscellaneous Literature [Catalogue 1]
San Francisco: 1928. 19x12cm, 31pp. Staple bound in printed green wrappers with yapped edges. Some toning and smudging to wrappers, pg 3. with a few tears, else very good.
The first catalogue from one of the preeminent San Francisco rare book dealers of the middle 20th century, David Magee. By the time he wrote on of the best bookseller memoirs, Infinite Riches, in 1973, he had been in business in the city for almost 50 years.
This catalogue from November of 1928 was issued shortly after Magee opened his shop at 480 Post Street, and just months after his 23rd birthday, when he was loaned $5,000 in starting capital from two friends. The catalogue is heavy on British literature, much of which was purchased that same year on a trip abroad, which Magee writes about in the "London Again" chapter of his memoir.
Price: $200.00
